Education Otherwise

The UK's largest home educators membership organisation.

There are currently (12-07-08) so many controversies surrounding EO that I do not feel able to recomend membership.

There are in any event sufficient sources of support and free advice and so I do not feel that EO membership fees represent good value for money.

Also Education Otherwise is an organisation structured with an elected governing council. However, as there are no postal votes to change the council you must attend the weekend annual meeting often held in remote locations. Thus few members ever get the chance to vote.

HEAS

The Home Educators Advisory Service, HEAS is an associate membership organisation supporting home education in the UK.

NOTE: I do not feel that I can recommend HEAS for two reasons.

1) They are not democratic. One joins as an associate not a member you have no vote regarding the organisations policies, running or management etc.

2) It is difficult to asses the impact of HEAS as the Trustees apparently have a policy of not discussing their decisions or policies. Such a policy makes co-operation difficult.

3) they charge for membersip, the benefits of which are generally available for free elsewhere.
